Trilogy facilitates US election coverage
Date of Story: October 2008 Trilogy Communications Ltd, which is a world leader in audio communications and infrastructure equipment to the broadcast market has just supplied the BBC with Mercury IP Intercom products for use with its current Commander and Orator digital matrix intercoms. The new units allow for the connection of multiple systems over an ADSL network to facilitate coverage of the ‘Race for the White House’. On election night Trilogy systems will connect the broadcast studio in Washington to the studio sites in London. Whilst presenters located in Millbank introduced the coverage, interviews with MP’s and political pundits were carried out through the OB hub at Television Centre which operated as a switching centre for the programme and on the ground regional reports. This trial saw a permanent Commander Intercom system at the BBC’s Millbank studios being connected via an MIU to another Commander in their hubbing facility at Television Centre and a further standalone MIU in their Virtual Reality studio. Following this initial trial, the Mercury Interface Units were redeployed across the United States to provide coverage of the American party conference season and presidential elections which culminate on November 4th.
